difference date format iPad / Macbook when viewing site from same IP
Reading the docs, it will utilise the control panel language format or logged in user format. Were you logged in on the Macbook?

Formatting date does not follow localisation settings!
The localisation settings only adjusts the language in the control panel. I can recommend the add on Date/Time Language Converter to adjust dates to the correct language in your templates.
