Wygwam is not saving images
Assuming you are using an older version of wygwam, try updating Wygwam to the latest version that has the "Restrict allowed HTML?" option in the Configuration settings, and set it to "No".

Is it possible to place an embedded template within a snippet?
As long as you don't notice any performance hits, its perfectly acceptable.
